 Youth Welfare Services

          In implementing youth welfare services, there are two main components namely; preventive and protective measure. As preventive measure, there are (70) Youth Centers established in States and Regions with the aim not to become juvenile delinquent. A total number of (7584) youths involve in the activities of these youth centers to be able to prevent wasting their time and spend their leisure time usefully.

          In order to be able to learn primary education, voluntary primary night schools are opened for the children who cannot attend formal schools for various reasons. There are (89) voluntary primary night schools opened by the communities. A total number of (252) voluntary teacher is teaching to total number of (5842) students. Department of Social Welfare has been providing honorarium fees for voluntary teachers, electricity power charges, fund for furniture, stationary and sports accessories yearly.

          With regards to protective measure, Department of Social Welfare is carrying out institution-based child protection system as well as community-based child protection system. Department of Social Welfare opens (10) youth training schools and nurtures children who are (8-18) years. These youth training schools are as follows;

        (a)Nget- Aw- San Boy’s training school

        (b)Thanlyin  Boy’s training school

        (c)Kyaik Wine Boy’s training school

        (d)Mawlamyaine Boy’s training school

        (e)Mandalay Boy’s training school

        (f)Lashio Boy’s training school

        (g)Labutta-Lu-Ngal-Ar-Mann Youth training  school

        (h)Training school for Girls ( Yangon)

        (i) Training school for Girls ( Mandalay)

        (j)Training school for Girls ( Htuk- Kyant) 

          In these youth training schools, vulnerable children such as children in special protection and care according to Child Law article (32), orphans, destitute children, children in conflict with the law, children with armed conflict, violent, abused, neglected and exploited children and street children receive and care. Department of Social Welfare provides basic needs (food, clothing, shelter), health care, education (primary, secondary, higher education), sports, vocational training such us hair cutting, carpenters, repairing motor vehicle services, center for vocational training (CVT) and education for youth ( E4Y )etc. And non-formal education, organized for polite and knowledgeable training, meditation, excursion and social counseling for mental and moral development to reduce youth and children’s feeling and stress. And also well-wishers are donating in cash and in kind for youth training earnestly.

          Department of Social Welfare in collaboration with UNICEF and Tdh-Italia is carrying out family Tracing and Reintegration programs. Besides, Department of Social Welfare in cooperation with UNICEF is implementing Data based systems.

          As community based child protection system, Department of Social Welfare assigned township level social workers to protect children in community. Moreover, voluntary organizations establish Youth Development Centers in community and care orphans and destitute children. There are (211) youth development centers in States and Regions. Department of Social Welfare provides financial and technical supports in these youth development centers yearly.

         Department of Social Welfare hands in hands with concerned Ministries, NGOs, INGOs, UN agencies, religious persons, voluntary social workers and local authorities has been carrying out youth welfare services with might and main.
