ASEAN – Youth

        The Department of Social Welfare is a ASEAN-Youth focal department. The objectives of ASEAN-Youth are: to promote close relationship among ASEAN – Youth, to develop the leadership skill on Youth, to upgrade and preserve the values of own culture and to exchange the knowledge of Youth policies among ASEAN countries.

         ASEAN Youth Meetings, Workshops and Seminars on Youth are held in  ASEAN countries to enhance the collaboration of Youth and their strength and to develop a global partnership for development in MDGs.

          The Senior Officials from Department of Social Welfare as leaders and delegates from respective ministries attended those meetings and workshops.

          Occasionally, ASEAN member countries were invited to attend the annual meetings, Seminar, Symposium, Expo, Camp, and Exchange Program in ASEAN countries alternatively. Youth leaders from Department of Social Welfare and participants from local NGOs such as Myanmar Maternal and Child Welfare Association, Myanmar Red Cross Society, the Union of Myanmar Federation of Chamber of Commerce and Industry and Myanmar Women’s Entrepreneurs Association attended and participated actively.

         The Senior Official Meeting on Youth (SOMY) and the ASEAN Ministerial Meeting on Youth (AMMY) are held in host countries in ASEAN alternatively.

        Moreover, the alternative meeting of AMMY was held on 2011 in Hanoi, Vietnam and Director from Department of Social Welfare attended the meeting and discussed the topics of Youth related to Education to promote job opportunities in ASEAN regions and cooperation among the ASEAN regions.

        ASEAN Youth Day Meeting has been annually held since 1992. In the meeting, ASEAN Youth Award has been presented to a person for Best Young Entrepreneurs in the region and each organization which has been making great effort for the Youth development.

         The Republic of the Union of Myanmar has received the award of Ten Accomplished of Youth Organization (TAYO) for participation in development programs from local NGOs such as Myanmar Maternal and Child Welfare Association and Myanmar Red Cross Society.

         Moreover, Meeting, Seminar, Workshop, Symposium, Forum, Expo, Camp and many programs for related ministries was held and discussed the themes of Education for Youth, Out of School Youth program, Reproductive Health on Youth, Promoting Job opportunities for ASEAN regions, Environmental Conservation, Youth and Terrorism.

       The 9th and 15th ASEAN Youth Day Meetings (AYDM) was held in 2000 and 2009 in Yangon and Nay Pyi Taw. The Third ASEAN Ministerial Meeting on Youth was held in 2000 in Yangon, and IT workshop for Youth was held in 2005 in Yangon.

      With regard to attending the Youth program, we can get the opportunities to share our Youth experience, to exchange views and ideas, to encourage our youth to realize the objectives of ASEAN community and contribute their potential and talent in building the ASEAN community and also Myanmar cultural norms are known in ASEAN region, good practices and spirit of volunteerism of Myanmar people.
